Unearthing Toronto's Garden District

Yonge Street neatly divides Toronto's downtown core with the west side consisting of gleaming office towers while the east side has an identity crisis. originally the home of the city's upper crust then to a mix of working class, middle class, the marginalized and swaths of institutions to support the latter. For the average Torontonian it's nothing more than a thoroughfare.  A no man's land between the shiny Bay Street financial district and the quaint Victorian residential neighbourhood of Cabbagetown. This project is a homage to those who have called this area home over the past two centuries, a reminder of the built heritage that has been lost and a warning of what may yet be lost. A tug of war between preserving historic past and meeting the practical demands of overpriced, transit accessible housing that has plagued the city practically since its founding.
